My first real look at the animal known as Local Education was Colorado in Sept of last year. The StandUp Kids. I was hunting Larry Krieger --
that swindling piece of crap -- and thought he was going to be in Jeffco for the meeting that day to push his AP History hysteria, but instead, I got the Kids going on strike. Yep, I watched the whole thing go down. Saw the tweets, felt the crack, loved the bang. I was still after Larry but I got caught up in that, and helped out for a while -- dealing with some of the media catastrophies created by Fox News -- who, in my opinion should not, by Law, be able to call themselves "news'.
There is a law we really need. If you want to make a law, get one going that says --
if your pundits are more than 50% wrong during a month, you loose the right to call your show "news". You can be Fox Show, or Fox View, or Fox, but not Fox News.To get it back, you have to sustain a level of 75% accuracy for three months Then you can be "news" again. That goes for all of them. Every one of them If you can't be at least 75% accurate most of the time -- the hell with you. Give that Politifact group a Fed Grant, put them under FBI Oversight. And No, that's not censoring. You have every right to say what you want and broadcast what you want -- but like everyone else in the world, there are consequences for what you say.So when you call kids "brainless gulible pawns" You own that. You better be right. Or.... not the News... simple.
So, during that whole thing over there, I learned that our states don't take Education very seriously as an office. We don't. In Colorado you don't have to have any kind of degree to qualify as a canadate running for a School Board seat. No degree at all. Not even a GED. How about yours? You might be surprised to discover that your board is the same way.
Did you even vote for your last school board election? The turn out for those elections is amazingly small. Can you name one person that sits on your school board? The local board for your district? One? When my son was in High School, I couldn't have told you anything about his School Board. No, I have to own that, that's the way it was. I didn't know. And it never crossed my mind that I should know.We were talking about that the other day. I'm kind of paying pentence now.
The Colorado local school boards, the District level boards have no qualifications, NO background checks... right? These people could be felons. Hell, the Landscape man has to have a background check, but not the School Board? Really? And the one that really threw me was No Oversight.
Just let that sink in.
The Jeffco County people were having a problem with one of the boardmenbers named Witt. He's doing things on the sly and not being transparent, and "losing" emails that he should be accountable for- so I told them, "Hey, just call the State Board. Tell them to deal with this prick"
"They can't do anything. They have no power or authority over local districts." -- is what they tweet back to me.
So, to recap, They have this guy, have no idea what is background is like, or his education level, or what his real motivations or ability might be, who has complete autonomous reign over the empire of your child's school life. No oversight, no one he has to answer to, nothing. Oh sure, you can NOT re-elect him... after he burns the place to the ground and brings in the clowns ...that will be a good thing to do ...if anyone bothers to vote in that election of course.
And it is a bit frightening just how much power, direct power, over the state of your neighborhood these school board members have. Recall that these are the people who vote on Charter schools. Right? They vote on whether to keep your kid's school open. Let that one sink in. It was the district School Board who made the decisions that opened the schools of Orange County Florida to the wonders of Satanism.
