Google's Personalized Searches

The next step in Search Engine Defense against the SEO sway of SERPs is apparently personalized searches. The Personalized Search service with Google is already in BETA. What the service entices the user with is a greater accuracy to searches because of the trends and interest shown in previous topics. For example a teenager would get Anthrax the rock band above Anthrax the virus on a search results page. Searches become more relevant to the user. Searching for India Cuisine, would likely give you a restaurant location near your home, prior to listing websites talking about the food from around the world.

Possible Overuse (creating negative value 'keyword stuffing')

Keyword StuffingKeyword Stuffingis an outdated, damaging practice. I'm not sure how effective it ever was, but I do know that just about every manager, owner, and webmaster who begins learning about SEO writing, comes up with it and tries it out.

My basic policy with this particular topic, and others like it, is 'I don't do it.' Really it is that simple. You've read in this article and many others I have written, that most of the decisions for Freelance Writing are on the client. But this is one of the areas which I don't leave to the Client, because along with today's payment, is tomorrow's payment, and I would rather loose one client than loose several others because of reputation and complaint.

Using keywords for SEO - an overview

We hear quite a bit about key words in regards to getting web sites to show up in search results. What we don't hear most of the time is how they really work and how to effectively use them. The best way to use them, is to have Google, or Yahoo tell us what key words should be on the page.

We don't need to be HTML experts or know everything about keywords and META Tags. We only need to know what should be done, and how, so we can know if our web masters or programmers are being effective for us (or at the very least not hurting us).

Keyword Weight

Some SEO Writer books and reference material will talk about Keyword Weight, or Page Subject Weight. This term is used in relation to Relevance Formulas which attempt to bring together Density, Usage, and the other factors described in this SEO writer article, to give keyword phrases a numerical value similar to the value a search engine might come up with for your page. The term Weight, in this context is the Statistics Definition: a measure of the relative importance of an item in a statistical population.
