Freelance Writing - Finding the Right Word

Starting Your Career As a Freelance WriterThere are times when we need to change vocabularies. This can be an arduous task if all Freelance Writers have to work with is a Thesaurus and a Dictionary. Dictionaries are good for correct definitions if we know the word we are looking for, and Thesaurus are good for 'common' word synonyms but rarely open up areas of professional or trade verbiage. Freelance Writers are often required to speak in tongues; trade words, geek speak and the like, for our pay.

One way to begin to gather in the sound of a trade is for the Freelance Writer to read through other web sites which are in the same trade. This takes quite a while, which is why I created the Vocabulary Creation program. ---

Another way for the Freelance Writer to discover words around a subject is to search through a web site such as Dictionary.com using the Google Search Engine's site: function.

automobile site:dictionary.reference.com/browse/

TIP: Set your Search Preferences to display 100 results per page, and skim past any entry which doesn't show the beginning of a definition in the link description (because it probably isn't really an entry... you'll see what I'm talking about soon enough).

This search gives the Freelance Writer a list of words with definitions, whose definitions include the word "automobile". These words are "related" to the search term but are probably not synonyms. Using a search engin in this way can save a great deal of time for the Freelance Writer, and help create blog or articles which enhance your client's website.
